Hi, I'm Lisa McNeilley, Ph.D, writer, editor, and educator. I'm author of Need to Know: College Success Workshop, and I received grants from the Wege Foundation and the Michigan College Access Network to use my book to help low-income and first-generation college students learn skills to succeed in college. I co-authored What I Can Do and D.B. Cooper and Me (mystery solved!). My poetry appears in Ariel Chart.
As an editor, I edited a multi-award winning YA fantasy novel, along with novels and non-fiction works on a range of subjects (except thrillers--I'm no good at the scary stuff). I served as prose editor for The 3288 Review and served on the editorial board for The Lakeshore Review. For three years, along with my writers' group, I ran a nationwide literary competition and edited the anthology for the competition, Imagine This! An ArtPrize Anthology. ArtPrize is an international art competition, described by Time as one of the top five festivals in the world. As I like to say, "looks good on paper!" And I love the printed word as it appears on just about any kind of paper. (or screen). But it has also been amazing and rewarding to work with so many interesting people and to help them use words to convey their ideas and experiences. From teaching college students to working with business professionals to helping writers express their ideas, I have been privileged to share in the creative journeys of so many people, and I never take that lightly.
